Hiya Kids Vitamins Review: We're Impressed

Hiya vitamins for kids, Bryce Gruber

If you’re well beyond the newborn checklist and deep into the world of toddler mattresses and big kid beds, it’s time for a game-changing multi-vitamin. We gave the much-talked-about Hiya vitamins for kids a try and were impressed with quality, taste and packaging.

What are Hiya kids’ vitamins?

Hiya vitamins for kids blend 12 fruits and veggies with 15 essential vitamins and minerals in a one daily chewable to help kids (and toddlers!) meet nutritional needs and fill gaps. And these wonderous better-for-them chewables have no added sugar.

Did you know the average serving of gummy vitamins has up to 5 grams of sugar? That’s as much as a whole Oreo cookie—a far cry from what feels like a healthy addition to children’s diets. That’s why Hiya uses a monk fruit extract sweetener instead of typical table sugar, plush a little mannitol, a sweetener commonly found in real strawberries. Monk fruit, if you’re wondering, is a tropical melon that’s absurdly sweet—and kids love it.

Hiya kids vitamins one-up the competition by offering a child-resistant glass bottle that’s a win for the environment and your countertops. It also protects the integrity of the nutrients inside. And, because vitamins can lose potency when they sit on shelves for too long, Hiya sends clever, ultra-fresh refills once each month. Shipping with free and it’s easy to start and cancel whenever you’d like.

Nutrients in each Hiya chewable:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin E
  • Thiamin (B1)
  • Riboflavin
  • Folate (B9)
  • Vitamin B12
  • Biotin (B7)
  • Pantothenic Acid (B5)
  • Calcium
  • Iodine
  • Zinc
  • Selenium
  • Manganese
  • Vitamin K

Our Hiya vitamins for kids review

Of my five kids, four are between the toddler and tween stages. I figured I’d give Hiya a try on everyone, but I really wanted to see if my especially picky-eating sons, ages six and nine, would like them. Those two are totally delightful humans, but nightmares to feed a well-rounded diet to (and their immune systems suffer for it).

They basically only like chicken, pasta, apples and strawberries. And while those aren’t the worst foods in the world, they certainly don’t leave them with a well-rounded collection of vitamins and minerals.

When our first delivery of Hiya vitamins arrived, each kid was beyond excited to feel (and fill!) the very substantial-feeling glass bottles. Don’t worry, Ma—the bottles are made of a pretty robust, thick glass that’s unlikely to shatter if it’s dropped. That said, you should still be somewhat careful.

They decorated the bottles with their names and then each tried one. “Well, they’re not gummies,” said my six-year-old, David. “But they kinda taste like Smarties. I like Smarties.” That was good enough for me, especially because I live in constant fear of cavities, and gummy candies and vitamins of all sorts are the absolute enemy of teeth.

My nine-year-old, the pickiest eater of all time, said, “Are these dessert?” after his first try, shortly after his typical dinner of lightly seasoned chicken, fruit and bowtie pasta.

“This is a pretty good candy for dessert. I don’t mind. It’s just too small. Can I have more?”

That’s when I knew Hiya was good. We were in. Golden, even. The pickiest eater I’ve ever given birth to literally though these little candy-style chewable tablets were dessert. SOLD.

On a personal level, we have some very specific dietary needs in our house so I was happy to see a vegan-approved ingredients list (and yes, these are dairy-free). The formula is also non-GMO and gluten-free. They’re easy to take with breakfast or dinner and add a sweet, yummy ending to a meal.

  • No gummy-style sugar formulas that contribute to cavities
  • Pork-free (most gummy daily vitamins have animal-based gelatins)
  • Eco-friendly glass container that preserves nutrients
  • Monthly ultra-fresh vitamin deliveries
  • Free shipping
  • Easy to start and easy to cancel membership for refill pouches
  • Included stickers for kids to decorate and customize their bottles with
  • Ability to control your delivery date
  • Third-party safety testing
  • Pricier than some kids’ vitamins on store shelves, but worth it for quality and freshness (and shipping is free)
  • No option for younger babies

Final verdict: 9.5 out of 10

These great-tasting chewable vitamins are perfect for any picky eater. The monthly subscription system offers valuable peace of mind and the 15 essential vitamins and minerals and blend of 12 fruits and vegetables is hard to beat. Buy the multivitamin and probiotic together as a bundle, or just head straight for the children’s vitamin option. The choice is yours.

Our family loves how easy to control your delivery date it is and that the brand tests for trace amounts of heavy metals allergens and pathogens regularly. We gave these a 9 out of 10 possible points, only taking half a point off for the higher-than-average pricing. But hey, we get it—quality and regular deliveries can’t be cheap.
