Best Toddler Sleep Sack 2023

8 Best Toddler Sleep Sack Picks 2023

Whether you’re worried about your toddler sleeping with a blanket or simply want to keep them from climbing out of the baby crib as long as possible, a toddler sleep sack might just be the answer to all your bedtime battles.

The best toddler sleep sack is comfortable, warm enough without hot, easy to use, super safe and the right size, of course. Bonus points if it can grow with your toddler without the need to upsize every few months.

From breathable, lightweight options for the warmer months to the snuggliest, temp-regulating wool for year-round, we’ve rounded up the best sleep sacks for your toddler, including a couple of cozy footed options for rocking around the house too.

What to look for in the best toddler sleep sack

“Most children have trouble keeping blankets on themselves until at least age four, often even older. A sleep sack is an excellent substitute,” says Brittany Sheehan, founder of Pediatric Sleep Consulting Agency Brittany Sheehan Sleep.

They’re also great at signaling to kids that it’s bedtime, especially those kids who have been in a swaddle or sack since day one. To help you find the best toddler sleep sack for your child, consider the following:

  • Size/Fit: Sleep sacks come in a range of sizes, with toddler sizes typically spanning many months (18 to 24 or 18 to 36 months for example). Look at each brand’s size chart before buying to check the recommended weight, height and age suggestions. For safe sleep, choose a comfortable fit that’s not too tight or too loose.
  • TOG rating: A TOG (thermal overall grade) rating indicates how warm a garment is. The higher the rating, the warmer the sleep sack. “A 1.0 tog sleep sack is a safe bet for almost any climate, and ideally you’re able to keep your toddler’s room somewhere between 68-72 degrees,” says Sheehan. “A 0.5 tog is great during the summer months or if your home tends to run hot.” If it’s winter or you live in a cold climate, Sheehan says a 2.0 tog may be appropriate.
  • Fabric: Look for sleep sacks made using natural and breathable materials like wool, cotton, and bamboo. If your little one has sensitive skin, this is all the more important. You may choose a different fabric for summer, something more lightweight, versus a heavier and thicker material for the colder months.
  • Zipper Placement: If your child is in a crib and is a little Houdini, in addition to putting on the sleep sack inside out and backward, Sheehan suggests looking for one that zips or snaps at the top, not the bottom, “which is harder for them to access and take off.”
  • Style: The best toddler sleep sack is not only safe and comfy-cozy but adorable to look at too! We love brands that offer a variety of cute color and fun print options for parents to choose from.

Kyte Baby Unisex Sleeping Bag

Kyte Baby Unisex Sleeping Bag, best toddler sleep sack Merchant

Kyte Baby sleep sacks are by far the most buttery-soft bamboo sleep sacks in the game. They’ve racked up nearly 1,000 rave reviews on Amazon with an almost perfect 4.8-average star rating. The brand is even a cult-fave option among parents—they even make sleep sacks for adults, but we digress.

The unisex sleeping bags are available in three different TOGs (0.5, 1.0 and 2.5), as well as a rainbow of colors. The eco-friendly bamboo is incredibly breathable and so gentle on sensitive skin. We love the double zipper feature too, which zips from neck down or bottom up, for fast and fuss-free diaper changes.

There’s also a hidden zipper flap to avoid irritation and prevent your older toddler from trying to escape. The Kyte Baby sleep sacks are a personal favorite of Sheehan’s. “They’re comfy, aesthetically pleasing, and sized well for older, bigger kids,” she tells us.

Real parents are just as obsessed. “Seriously can’t get over the quality of this sleep sack,” writes one reviewer.

“It is incredibly soft and feels so luxurious. I’m honestly annoyed I spent so much money on cheaper ones when in reality this one isn’t that much more. It’s super long too so your little one has lots of room for growing.”

  • Incredibly soft
  • Roomy with plenty of room to grow
  • Breathable and great for sensitive skin
  • Choose from three different TOG ratings
  • Multiple size and color options
  • Stylish
  • Also one of our favorite sleep sacks for babies under 12 months
  • The brand doesn’t recommend putting your sleep sacks in the dryer, which may be frustrating if you don’t own multiple and need it cleaned quick

Halo Sleepsack Toddler Sleeping Bag

The Halo Toddler Sleeping Bag is definitely the best bang for your buck. Resembling a romper, this cozy sleep sack features a stretchy elastic waist with foot openings. These keep your toddler from tripping. It’s an excellent option for younger toddlers or bigger kids not trying to climb (yet), especially since they can rock it around the house like a wearable blanket before bedtime.

Shoulder snaps allow parents to adjust the sleep sack for the best fit as their little one grows. Flip over the foot openings to keep tiny toes warm at night. Available in three sizes, the two younger sizes (12-24 months and 2T) have an inverted zipper for diaper changes, while the 3T has a standard zipper for ease.

Purchase it in the 100% cotton 0.5 TOG for spring/summer and then switch to the ultra-plush luxe fleece 2.0 TOG version for fall/winter. Throw it in the wash on the gentle cycle and tumble dry for quick cleaning.

  • Excellent value
  • Adjustable shoulder snaps as they grow
  • Romper style for walking
  • Goes up to size 3T
  • Can be machine-washed and dried
  • Cozy
  • Some complain the foot cuffs don’t fully cover feet

ergoPouch Baby Sleep Sack

The flexibility offered by a footed sleep sack like the ergoPouch Baby Sleep Sack makes it a must-have. It easily transitions from nap and nighttime to playtime thanks to its innovative design. This allows parents to use it as a sleeping bag or convert it into a bodysuit.

We really love the extended size ranges too so you’re not constantly purchasing a new sack when your kiddo hits a growth spurt. The smaller toddler size spans all the way from 8 months to 24 months. Use bigger sizes for a solid two years at a time. Kiddos can stay in this sack until they’re six years old, the longest on our list by far.

Longer-sleeve versions are available in 2.5 and 3.5 TOGs, and the sleeveless versions come in 0.3 and 1.0 TOGs. Choose from plenty of stylish print and color options.. Made from certified organic cotton and natural fibers and boasting a luxe 400-thread count, this sack is sure to induce sweet dreams.

  • Converts from a sleep sack to a sleep suit
  • Certified organic cotton
  • Sizing up to six years, which is the most extensive on our list
  • Lots of modern color and print options
  • Available in four different TOGs
  • Can machine wash and dry
  • Long sleeves
  • Slightly pricy, but worth it because you can use it for years
  • Not the most convenient for diaper changes

Dreamland Baby Sleep Sack

Dreamland Baby Sleep Sack, best toddler sleep sack Merchant

This top-rated and gently weighted wearable blanket is the dream, honestly. Aptly named, the Dreamland Baby Sleep Sack is designed to mimic all the benefits of a weighted blanket, helping toddlers relax, fall asleep faster and stay asleep for longer.

While it’s only weighted on the front of the sleep sack, if your toddler is a belly sleeper the neckline is reversible so you can just put it on backward and they’ll still get that cuddly, hug-like sensation and security.

It’s made of soft, 100% natural cotton so it’s super breathable. We love the 1.2 TOG rating, which is ideal for most households and year-round wear. The two-way zipper system is also ideal for changing little ones still in diapers.

“My toddler has always been a terrible sleeper and we’ve tried everything from bamboo, to a million different blankets and sleep slacks, but nothing ever worked until we tried the Dreamland sack,” writes one reviewer of these weighted sleep sacks.

“She fell asleep within minutes and stayed asleep in her toddler bed, which we have been trying to get her to do for weeks. We always rocked her to sleep for the first 18 months so I finally feel like we have found the perfect product to replicate that ‘warmth’ and weight that she got from that.”

  • Gently weighted for better sleep
  • Reversible neckline so you can put it on backward for belly sleepers
  • Soft, 100% breathable cotton
  • High-quality, stylish design with several color/print options
  • Machine-washable and dryable
  • Choose from sizes up to 36 months
  • Helps younger babies transition out of the swaddle
  • It’s pricy but worth the splurge for better sleep
  • American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises against weighted baby sleep sacks for younger infants, so stick to toddler sizing

Woolino Toddler Sleeping Sack

Woolino Toddler Sleeping Sack, best toddler sleep sack Merchant

Your one-and-done sleep sack (for at least a couple of years). This luxe merino wool sleep sack works like magic, keeping your little one at the perfect temperature, no matter the time of year, thanks to its unique temperature-regulating properties.

It’s big enough to fit kids from the age of two to four years old. That means you don’t need to splurge on another sleep sack in between growth spurts. For smaller children, simply close the underarm snaps to adjust the fit.

Because merino wool is naturally hypoallergenic, it’s especially great for toddlers with sensitive skin. And we don’t know about you, but we always sleep better when we’re snoozing on super soft, luxurious bedding so we can only assume your toddler will too with Woolino, which is premium quality. Yes, it’s pricey, but we promise you’ll wonder why you didn’t buy it sooner.

“I have tried so many sleep sacks, and this one takes the cake,” says one reviewer. “My girl usually wakes up with her head soaked in sweat after naptime, and she doesn’t anymore with this sleep sack. It really does help regulate her temperature better. I was really hesitant about spending this much, but this thing is really wonderful and will last for a long time!”

  • Premium quality
  • Breathable, temperature-regulating merino wool for year-round comfort
  • Hypoallergenic for sensitive skin
  • GOTS-certified organic exterior
  • Grows with them from age two to four, saving you the cost of buying another
  • Stylish colors and prints
  • It’s expensive, but you’re paying for premium quality and materials, plus they’ll fit in it for two years
  • Recommended to hang or air dry so can’t be cleaned and ready to use in a pinch

Whether your house runs hot or your little one does, this is truly the best toddler sleep sack to beat the heat. The muslin material is soft, lightweight, and breathable, and the 0.5 TOG means they’ll still get that cozy blanket feeling without burning up.

We love the roomy 18-36-month sizing too, which means they can wear it forever (legit half their life) without you having to stress about sizing up. And the prints are just precious. There’s a beautiful floral bouquet style, a classic train print, super fun superhero dogs, and more.

“My little guy is a very hot sleeper and this sleep sack is definitely his favorite to sleep in,” writes one reviewer. “It breathes well and washes great.”

Another reviewer compares the Loulou Lollipop Muslin Sleep Bag to, “a light fresh bedsheet for those summer nights.”

  • Super cute prints
  • Machine-washable and dryable
  • Moderate price point
  • Free of toxic chemicals
  • 2-way zipper for easy diaper changes
  • Some reviewers report ripping at the seams after some use, but we’ve used this sack all summer with my toddler and no issues
gunamuna sleep sack, best toddler sleep sack Merchant

There’s so much to love about the Günamüna sleep sacks, from the incredibly stylish design and loads of contemporary print and color options to the roomy fit, which allows active sleepers to move more freely in the crib. With a 1.0 TOG rating, they’re light enough for year-round wear, but still cozy enough to keep your little comfortable in any season. It’s the quality and buttery-softness of this popular bamboo sleep bag though that so many parents praise.

“I have about 5 different brands of sleep sacks and this one is by far the best,” says one reviewer. “It is SO soft and so well made. The way it is designed makes it so easy for diaper changes. The larger one has snaps on the right shoulder so it’s easier to take on and off.”

Another reviewer who purchased the Günamüna sleep sack for her 20-month-old says, “It has held up very well, with no pilling or tearing or wearing of fabric or zippers.”

For toddlers still in diapers, changing them in this sleep sack is effortless. There’s a unique zipper design (actually four zippers!) so freeing the legs and getting a fresh diaper on isn’t such a challenge.

  • Buttery soft bamboo
  • Unusual zipper design for easy diaper changes
  • Tons of modern colors and prints to choose from
  • Choose from sizes up to 36 months
  • Extremely well made/high quality
  • Extra roomy for more freedom of movement
  • No flame retardants or chemicals

Kyte Baby Sleep Bag Walker

kyte baby sleep bag walker, best toddler sleep sack Merchant

This is the best toddler sleep sack for little walkers. It’s just as buttery soft as the Kyte Baby sleep sacks, but with leg openings so they can safely walk without frustration or falling flat on their face. Yes, the design makes it easier for kiddos to climb out of cribs, but you know your child best.

Ankle cuffs keep heat in and cold out, while a dual zipper allows you to change your toddler’s diaper by simply popping their feet out as opposed to taking the entire sack off. “I love these walkers,” exclaims one reviewer.

“They are buttery soft and the perfect TOG for our house which is typically 68-72 degrees.” They also go up to size 4T so if your toddler is obsessed you won’t have to wean them off anytime soon.

  • Buttery soft bamboo
  • Easy for little ones to walk in
  • Goes up to size 4T
  • Dual zipper for fast diaper changes
  • High quality
  • Keeps babies warm
  • Leg holes make it easier for toddlers to climb out of the crib

When to stop using a toddler sleep sack

Once they move to a bed, Sheehan advises parents to remove the sleep sack. “At that point, a sleep sack can be a tripping hazard for a child who may be walking around their room,” she says. “If your child loves the feeling of a sleep sack, however, and is still in pull-ups (which is completely normal in the toddler and preschool age!), a walker sleep sack is an option.”

Certified pediatric sleep consultants like Sheehan agree that big kid beds signal the end of the sleep sack era. If they use a crib, a sleep sack is still a viable options. Otherwise, a sleep sack or wearable blanket just isn’t necessary. They’re likely ready to move onto big kid beds and blankets at the same time.

If they’re night-trained though, having to take a toddler sleep sack off along with their jammies simply isn’t practical. Stop using a sleep sack when the time is right for you and when your doctor agrees.

How to transition a toddler out of sleep sacks

According to Sheehan, once your toddler moves to a bed or is night-trained, it’s time to transition out of a sleep sack. “If a child is really attached to the sleep sack but has moved to a bed, repositioning it as a lovey can be helpful,” she says.

“This is also a great example of positioning a change in a positive way. We’re not taking away the sleep sack, we’re graduating to a new outfit at sleep time, because now they are a big boy or girl. It’s a huge privilege to be in a bed, and we know they can be responsible and stay in bed without their sleep sack on!”
